FAQ

What is somatic attachment psychotherapy, and how might it help me?

Somatic Attachment Psychotherapy combines attachment theory with body-focused therapy. It helps people heal relationship wounds, including insecure attachment, and reduce patterns like anxiety or avoidance that can affect relationships. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which focuses mostly on thoughts, this approach works with the body. Relationship trauma is often stored in the body, so it can be hard to heal through thinking alone. In our work together, we will pay attention to body sensations, images, and metaphors to help you connect with different parts of yourself, feel more balanced, and strengthen your nervous system.

I had a pretty good childhood and have not experienced significant trauma. Will somatic attachment psychotherapy still be helpful for me?

I believe so! Most of us experienced some kind of stress or can think of difficult experiences in our past. These experiences might not disrupt your everyday functioning, but show up in certain ways. Somatic practices help attune to our bodies and increase regulation capacity. Ultimately, this helps us become more resilient and better equipped for future challenges.

Do you use other therapeutic modalities in your practice?

I do. While somatic practices are an important pillar for my work, I have lots of experience working with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as mindfulness approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I believe that most therapeutic modalities have their time and place, and I tailor my sessions to my client’s unique needs.

Do you offer in-person counselling sessions?

Yes, I offer both in-person counselling sessions at my Downtown Vancouver office, as well as virtual counselling sessions. When booking an appointment, you can choose between an in-person or virtual session.

Do I need to live in BC to access your services?

I am registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counselling, which allows me to practice in British Columbia. To access my services, your residence should be in BC. If you live in a different Canadian province, you may contact me to inquire about counselling. It will be a case-by-case assessment if I can provide counselling, subject to the laws and regulations of the province you live in.

Do you offer direct billing?

At this time, I don’t offer direct billing. I do require a credit card on file and will process payment on the day of service. You may submit the receipt to your insurance for reimbursement. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #21243) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. Please check with your insurance provider to determine if they cover counselling services and how to submit receipts for reimbursement.

Do you offer a sliding scale for fees?

Sliding scale options are available when finances are a barrier. Please contact me to discuss options and find a solution that works for you.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least 48 hours notice. This allows me to offer the time to another client. Cancellations with less than 48 hour’ notice will be charged the full fee.
